Basketball

On Monday 28th November at 6pm in the Geoff Handbury Sports Centre a special forum will be held for any player, coach, manager or parent currently interested in / or involved in College Basketball. This will be an opportunity to share in the vision for Basketball in 2017 and positively discuss some new initiatives at both junior and senior level. For more information, please contact either of the following staff members at the school – Director of Sport Mr Leigh Alexander or 2017 Head of Basketball – Miss Simone Brabham.

3 Bays Marathon Success

Congratulations to Jock Keiller, Tãne Nelson, Cassidy Beal, Lachlan Armstrong and Reagan Simons who were members of the winning secondary team in the 2016 Portland 3 Bays Marathon. The event was held in trying conditions on Sunday November 5th. The team did extremely well in running the 42 kilometres in under 3 hours 30 minutes. Thanks to Mrs Brigita Keiller for her organisation of the team.

Cricket

On Friday the 11th of November the Year 6 students accompanied by the Captains of Cricket competed in the Primary Schools' 'T20 Big Blast Schools Cup' at Pedrina Park.  The Campbell Watt and Isabelle Linke coached teams represented the school in a fantastic manner which saw the students have a great day out. The competition was a three game round robin format with the top four sides making two semi finals and eventually a final.

The two College sides were unable to feature in the finals campaign although all students represented themselves and the school with class. It was a great day had by all and a day on the calendar I am sure they will look forward to next year.

Hockey Clinic

All students in the Senior School have received an email which includes an attachment providing preliminary information about a hockey clinic planned for next March.  It is likely that some younger students may be interested also.  A copy of that attachment is appended to this Newsletter.

Please note that we are asking for expressions of interest for involvement in the clinics before the end of this month and will seek to confirm involvements early in the new school year.

Under 14 College Cricket Report

Round Three’s contest saw the College Eagles play Coleraine. Despite losing the toss and being sent into bat, the young Eagles thrived in their natural habitat at Myrniong. Hannah Nichols had an impressive stint in the middle, scoring 34, before being trapped in front of her stumps.  Nicholas Gunn followed, also staring with the bat. His innings of 52 runs retired, comprised of some excellent stroke play at an entertaining rate of a run a ball. Other contributions came from Oliver Wortley (50 n/o) and quality partnerships from the lower order enabled College to set Coleraine a mammoth task of 244. The highlight of the Eagles innings was how each batsman showed value and respect for their wicket. After a week to rest their legs, College came out the following Saturday just as impressively as with their batting. Scoring opportunities were limited by some excellent bowling and fielding, as College kept the pressure on their opposition. Nicholas Gunn again stared, but this time with the ball, not allowing any runs to be scored off his bowling. Charlie Rivett also had excellent figures with 1/0 off 3.2 overs. Oliver Wortley, Hamish Wortley and Henry Bensch also bowled well with the figures 4/3, 1/14 and 2/1 respectively. Some impressive bowling from Hamish Boyd Walsh and Dougal Mann steered the Eagles home for victory with one wicket each. Overall the team performed extremely well and hopefully they can take this momentum into next week’s game against Dunkeld at the Dunkeld School Oval.
