Lego League Challenge

2019 saw the Wantirna College enter into their first FIRST Lego League challenge.  This year the challenge was City Shaper.  Our team, consisting of Nathan Bromfield, Teegan Bruton, Dayle Coughlan, Brody Green, Elijah Haynes, Luca Sharman, Amy Ye, Jeffery Zhang and Roger Zhang had been working on completing the challenge over the last 3 months.

Coached by Clara Bainbridge and Leona Ma, our team, Team Curiosity, faced off with over 19 teams last Wednesday at the State Championships.  The challenge consisted of A programming challenge – designing and programming a Lego robot to complete various tasks on the challenge mat.

Identifying a problem that a local, national or international community is facing, and coming up with an appropriate and creative solution.

Demonstrating the core values of collaboration, creativity and sustainability.

Although Team Curiosity did not progress to the National Competition, they managed to set a new personal best in the programming challenge.  Their solution to the plastic water bottle pollution issue, using water oohos as an alternative packaging, resulting in a finely detailed Minecraft video.  This video showed their rationale and vision in why and how to implement their solution and it was highly praised by the judges.

Congratulations on being the first Wantirna College Lego League team and hopefully we will see you all next year
