MATHS

MATHS WALK THE LINE
Two weeks into Term 3, and only a few days after the Parabolas test, the Year 9 ELMS classes took part in a unique and unexpected maths class. Our teachers, Ms Greenwood and Mr Killeen put together an interactive activity where students, in small teams, had to construct a parabola.
Twist was, the parabola was life-sized, drawn with chalk outside R block, and the points on the graph were individual members of our team.
In our creatively-named teams, we all solved different parabolic equations as fast as we could and allocated the y-intercept, turning point, etc. to various group members. We saw conflict among group members, teams starting out strong and falling apart in the final, triumph, and a widespread sense of hysteria. It was truly a race against time to solve our equations as quickly as possible, and earn the glory of class parabola-solving champions.
Thank you to Ms Greenwood and Mr Killeen for organising this activity to relieve (or intensify) our after-test stresses!
