STUDENT CARDS
Students can borrow from the library without a student card. Clearly say your user code to the librarian on duty and your details can be bought up on our system. However, the library staff really appreciate students who use their card to borrow as loans are able to be processed more efficiently.
Another good reason to bring your student card to the library is to quickly release print jobs on the photocopiers. Simply swiping your card is much quicker than typing in user name, enter, tab down, type in password , enter, log in , etc….
CBCA Book WEEK: 18 - 24 AUGUST 2018

As a teenager James discovered a love of thrillers, of being entertained and informed along the way. He has written four series of novels ranging from primary school aged readers with THE LAST THIRTEEN (Scholastic 2013) to fast paced thrillers such as THE SPY (Hachette 2013). James has a passion for promoting literacy in Australia. He is involved in many creative writing groups and regularly talks at literary events. He is a member of the Australian Society of Authors, Fellowship of Australian Writers and State Writers’ Centres.
John Larkin will speak to Year 8 students
John Larkin began life as a professional soccer player but was forced to retire at twenty-one due to a serious knee injury and an even more serious bout of apathy. Disillusioned and heartbroken, he backpacked around Europe for a year and was bitten by the writing bug while sitting in a café in Paris reading the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and sipping an outrageously expensive cup of coffee. John's books for young adults include: his latest release The Pause (winner of the Queensland Literary Awards Griffith University Young Adult Book Award 2015), as well as Shadow Girl (winner of the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards Prize for Writing for Young Adults 2012); Goon Town; Spaghetti Legs, Pizza Features and Lasagne Brain (the pasta trilogy); Ghost Byte; Growing Payne; Nostradamus; Instant Noodles; and the Western Wildcats series. His books for younger readers include Horse Girl, Horse Girl Rides Again, Dog Boy and Harry Highpants and the Salivating Beast. He has also released a Generation X novel entitled Deja Vu and a collection of short stories, Bite Me! Talks: Since the publication of his hugely successful first novel Spaghetti Legs in 1993, John has written over twenty-two books for children, teens and adults.
WRITING WORKSHOPS FOR YEAR 9 AND 10 STUDENTS
This year students in Year 9 and 10 will participate in writing workshops given by published authors. These events will take place on Thursday 23 August. McKinnon students should get some tips on writing to help with their academic studies. As noted last newsletter a number of new and recently published authors are former students and perhaps our next author will gain inspiration from these workshops.
