Welcome to Term 2! I trust families enjoyed a lovely break together and that all children were eager to return to school and catch up with friends. This is going to be a busy term for Cumberland students with many events and activities planned, as well as the Semester 2 reporting period.

10 May            Mothers' Day Breakfast & Stall

15-25 May     NAPLAN Years 3 and 5

11 June         Queen’s Birthday

15 June         Cumberland Dance Party

21 June         Day of Excellence

Winter Uniforms

During the first 2 weeks of Term 2, students have the choice of uniforms to wear, Summer or Winter. The Winter uniform is compulsory from the start of Week 3. There appears to be some confusion amongst the students about the parka.

  • The parka can only be worn in Terms 2 and 3. It is not permitted in Terms 1 and 4.
  • When travelling to and from school, students in the Winter uniform must wear their blazer. On cooler days, the parka can be worn over the blazer – it cannot be worn without a blazer.
  • During lunchtimes, the parka can be worn instead of a blazer as it allows for more freedom of movement during this active time.

Sports Polo Shirt

This is the last year that the old-style pale blue polo shirt can be worn. From 2019, all students are expected to wear the new style sports polo featuring house colours. We ask that you renew your child’s shirt by the end of the year if they are still wearing the old style.

Primary Peer Support Program

The Peer Support Program is designed to provide students with a supportive learning environment in which to develop the skills, understandings, attitudes and strategies to make healthy life decisions. It is a peer led, skills based, experiential learning program. The Peer Support Program modules focus on developing values, skills and understandings vital to the wellbeing of children and young people. They assist students to develop:

  • a sense of self
  • resilience
  • connectedness
  • a sense of possibility

This year, we have made a few changes to this program. We have extended it to include Year 5 and Year 1 students. The program, which will begin this term will see Year 5 teamed up with Prep buddies and Year 6 teamed up with Year 1 buddies. This enables the students to spend 2 years together and to build a stronger relationship as a result.

Students in Year 5 and 6 will be trained in the first few weeks of this term in preparation for delivering the program.
