Classroom News - Year 5

                             Welcome to Year 5

We welcome all our students to Year 5.  A special welcome to our new student, Alice Hayes.  Everyone has settled in well and we are looking forward to a great year.

                            Swimming Carnival

Our Swimming Carnival is this Friday, 7th February. This will run all day. Could all students return their notes before Friday? Any parent help on the day is really appreciated.

Term Overview

Religion: The students have begun working on a biography about the life of our patron saint, St Angela Merici.  Following this, we will begin a unit of work on The Reign of God: Reaching Out in Justice and then, Lent: A Time for Growth.

English:  The first literature unit will be based around the text, The Whales' Song by Dyan Sheldon and Gary Blythe. Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing the elements of VCOP and Big Write. 

Maths: Our first unit will focus on TIME - 24hr, timetables and problems about elapsed time. Following this, we will move onto revising place value and using larger numbers for the 4 operations. 

Science: Today we began talking about Earth and Its Place in Space. The students are already keen to discover the answers to some of the ideas mentioned today.

PDHPE (Health): At this time of year we focus on positive mindsets and the different Zones of Regulation which affect our behaviour and our interactions with others.

                                    Welcome BBQ

We are hoping to see as many of you as possible at the Welcome BBQ next Thursday, 13th February.  The P&F always do an amazing job of catering and the food is FABULOUS! Bring a picnic rug and your own drinks, and come and chat to all our new and old families. What a great way to start the year, enjoy some fine food and company!

                            Classroom Equipment

Thank you to all the families for having the student's pencil cases stocked. We would also like each child to bring in some headphones or earbuds to use for particular activities.

                   Parent Information Night

The Year 5 Information Night will be at 6:40pm on Tuesday, 11th February. We look forward to seeing you all. We will meet in the larger Year 5 room.
