Year 7
Leah McBryde
Pastoral Leader Year 7
We have officially made it to the halfway point of 2021. It is incredible to think that the Year 7 students have been in attendance for 20 weeks of secondary schooling. No doubt students are looking forward to the holidays just as much as the teachers to reflect, relax and get ready for an exciting Term 3. This term we have seen many exciting opportunities for our Year 7 students that included the UPP pastoral day, SMCC Cross Country, Open Night, TCS Cross Country, Girls Bill Turner Cup Soccer and JSS trials just to mention a few. It has been wonderful to see so many Year 7 students engaged in the wonderful opportunities that SMCC provides for all, and supporting the College in future endeavours.
Next term we have some very exciting opportunities present for the Year 7 students including camp, St Mary’s Day and our Athletics Carnival just to highlight a few. At St Mary’s we aim to make a difference through faith, hope and love. When our students get involved in all aspects of the College life, we will see this mission statement come to fruition. On many occasions I have spoken with students about the concept of ‘you only get out what you put in’. If you are going to only give a minimal effort in class and in the wider SMCC community, then you are not getting the best outcomes for yourself. It is through engagement in learning and extra activities in the College community where the true discovery of what each student is capable of is realised and enjoyed. I continue to encourage each student to put in their best effort across all aspects of their lives so they can be given the best learning opportunities for lifelong learning.
Last week students finalised their report card reflections in pastoral group and made some learning and personal goals for the first half of next term. We look forward to reviewing these goals next term and analysing the semester report cards.
A reminder that camp permissions are due back as soon as possible so preparations can begin. If you have any concerns or questions around camp, please get in contact with me at your earliest convenience. The Year 7 Camp is a wonderful opportunity for students to build relationships with other peers and be pushed outside their normal comfort levels in a fun and adventurous way. I look forward to the adventures awaiting us all down at Echo Creek, Tully.
