Family Connect

Paul De Boom

President SMCC Family Connect

Hello everyone,

As we approach these school holidays I would like to look back on what we have achieved this year so far:

  • Two very positive parent engagement evenings providing an understanding to new and existing parents in the areas of Student Portal use, Library services and resources, student engagement via technology, QCE/ATAR for junior school parents and guidance counselling within the College.
  • Funding support to various sporting codes and College arts program in the lead up to the June/July school holidays.
  • Support to the College Open Night with sponsorship of the evenings “lucky door” prize and manning of the Family Connect booth with engagement of potential new students and parents touring the College during the event.
  • Family Connect - College representation at CSPQ Diocese of Cairns meeting and workshops providing input and shared learning within the many schools and colleges across the Far North.

Our monthly meetings have been well attended and I wish to thank the committee, members, College leadership and Councillor Cathy Zeiger for their ongoing commitment.

Just a reminder that all parents are welcome to attend our meetings and just sit in and share your thoughts and ideas with us without the expectation of further commitment.

I have attached the minutes of our last meeting held on Tuesday 15th June for your information with some additional information provided by Councillor Zeiger kindly provided at our meeting.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions for future meetings. We can be contacted at smw.familyconnect@cns.catholic.edu.au .

A couple of dates for consideration next semester brought to you by Family Connect:

  • Thursday 26th August – Dr Kristy Goodwin – digital wellbeing support for students and parents (student and parent sessions)
  • Tuesday 14th September – Supporting your student (writing refresher for parents)

I will close by wishing our College Principal Mr Wayne Woods every success on his temporary appointment to the role of Director of School Effectiveness (Secondary & P-12 Colleges) for the next six-months commencing in July and welcomes Mr Ian Margetts as Acting Principal; we look forward to the opportunities ahead as he takes up his new role.

Our next General Meeting will be held on the Tuesday 20th July 2021.

I wish all a safe and enjoyable holiday!

Regards
