Performing Arts News

Welcome to Term 3!

With the recent lockdown, it feels like Production was a lifetime ago, but it would be remiss of me not to do a little note of celebration after such a big event.

On Tuesday 13th of July, our students in Grades 3 to 6 showcased their work in Performing Arts in our production of ‘Count Back: A musical showcase of Australian hits from the 70s and 80s’ at George Wood Performing Arts Centre. It was a fantastic night and a great opportunity to bring our Rolling Hills Primary School community together.

Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS to our students on delivering a brilliant show. The enthusiasm and talent on display was really impressive. My favourite part of Production is watching students grow through the process and I was beaming with pride as every student did their very best. I am sure there were many proud friends and family members in the audience too. Well done everyone!

A special mention to those Grade 5 and 6 students who performed in featured roles. With the lockdown at the end of Term Two, our rehearsal period was cut short. These students participated in ‘remote rehearsals’ and came in over the holidays to ensure that they were prepared. I was so impressed by their commitment and willingness to do silly dance moves, wear crazy wigs and sing/act on their own in front of such a large audience. Again, it has been a privilege to watch these students grow throughout the process to perform with such confidence and skill. Congratulations!

Thank you to everyone that came out to watch the show. It was very exciting to have an almost sold out performance, especially as the restrictions were constantly changing. Thank you to the parents/ carers/ families for supporting their students through the process including organising costumes.

We had a few parents who were especially helpful through the process. Thank you so much to Sumedha Wickramarathne and Anita Beever for their incredible work in creating costumes. Their generosity and talent is greatly appreciated. Thank you also to Andrea Newlands for her amazing work with the wigs and styling hair and to Sher Ray for her wonderful assistance with hair too. Thank you to Tracy Lynch for donating her time and talents, taking professional photos of the show.

The production simply would not happen without the work of our amazing staff. Covid restrictions meant that it was all hands on deck on the night to ensure that we could adhere to all the guidelines. There was an endless list of tasks, from being on the audition panel, to rehearsing with students in featured roles, supporting class rehearsals, assisting with sets, loading the truck, supporting holiday rehearsals, designing the program, labelling costumes, ironing shirts, the list goes on – a most heartfelt thank you to the staff at Rolling Hills. A particularly enormous thank you to the Production Team who have such a passion for this event and dedicate so many hours, going above and beyond to ensure it is a success.

So, there is another Production done and dusted! If you would like to order professional photographs taken of the show, please check the details on Compass. Orders close very soon!!

… and now for Term Three!

I am excited to start working with all the Prep, Grade One and Grade Two students as they participate in Performing Arts classes in Term Three and Four. We will be singing, dancing, acting and playing instruments on Mondays and Tuesdays. See you next week!
