Newsletter Committee

Introducing the 3/4VE Newsletter Committee. Each fortnight a small group of members will be responsible for our newsletter page. They will decide what we include, write the blurbs and take all the images. This weeks newsletter has been prepared by Sebastian, Savior and Josh.

Wigs for Kids

Our amazing Harper donated her beautiful long hair to Wigs for Kids. This organisation provides wigs for kids with alopecia. We are so proud of Harper for making such a big decision and we think you look sensational with your new hair style.

Literacy

This week is NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC week celebrates the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This week in Literacy we have focused on a different Indigenous story each day.

After reading Willum we researched and identified indigenous words and made an Aboriginal glossary that included the word, language group and meaning. We chose a food or animal from The Lost Girl and researched it. After reading Fair Skin Black Fella we made a diversity poster representing diversity with the words:

We are are all brothers and sisters in this life,

No matter what colour we are.

Maths

This week in maths we have been learning about area. We are learning how to find the area of an object and how we would use area in everyday life.

We found the area of our names by using our 1cm square grid books. We then designed a jam jar label that had to have an area between 60cm2 and 72cm2. For tuning in we played math paddocks and then we made a chocolate box with an area of 24.

Inquiry

This term our topic is Identity and Diversity. Because the NAIDOC week theme is Heal Country our provocation was - Is the world broken? We had to agree or disagree and then explain our thinking. We looked at the map of Australia showing all of the different Aboriginal communities.

This was our Provocation. To get us thinking.

Fire Carrier News-Leo

This year the theme of NAIDOC week is Heal Country. Today all the Fire Carriers ran an activity in each of the classrooms to celebrate Indigenous culture.

This Friday all the fire carriers are going to St Anne's Primary School to meet with other Fire Carriers from different schools. There will be a fire carrier ceremony and we will become full Fire Carriers.
