1/2 T

Welcome back to Term 3!

Hoping all families had a restful break.

It has been great to see everyone return this week,

ready for a new term of learning.

Literacy

This week we have been reading and listening to a whole range of fiction and non-fiction books and working on building our fluency as we read.

Some students are practising making text-to-self and text-to-text connections to build understanding, while others are working on making inferences,

(working out what the author is telling us without actually telling us)

by using clues in the text and our prior knowledge.

We are also busily writing letters to our Pen Pals in New South Wales.

Maths

This week we have been ordering the days of the week and the months of the year.

We talked about which months fit into which season, and how the seasons are at different times of the year, depending on where you live.

We learnt about what a calendar is used for and even constructed a class calendar.

We looked at the day and the date that certain things happen, and even used our own calendars to work out how long some events last.

Next week we will be moving on to using clocks to tell the time.

It would be great to practise this important skill at any opportunity.

Inquiry / Ed in Faith

This term our Inquiry topic is Identity and Diversity

We started looking at the Identity of Indigenous Australian's using pictures to see what students already think and know about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

We gathered a long list of questions that students have,

which will guide our learning during the term.

We celebrated NAIDOC week by wearing Indigenous colours today and we all coloured and decorated pieces of a puzzle to build our very own NAIDOC week sign.

We have also been sharing a range of NAIDOC week inspired prayers this week,

including the Aboriginal Our Father.
