Live Simply Day
On Friday, 23 March we had 430 students participate in our Live Simply Day. Students raised close to $6500 by gaining sponsorship from family, friends and teachers by committing to living simply for the day.
Students were encouraged to ride to school, eat plain bread for lunch, reduce their electricity consumption, become waterwise and limit their use of social media. Funds raised will go towards Caritas Australia and their annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal, Project Compassion, which brings thousands of Australians together in solidarity with the world's poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
What slavery-free Easter eggs will you enjoy this Easter weekend?
Pope Francis said that “every person ought to have the awareness that purchasing is always a moral – and not simply an economic – act.”
Big supermarkets will be ordering their 2019 Easter chocolate products soon, so keep the issue going in your community. And today, only eat chocolate featuring the Fair Trade, UTZ Certified or Rainbow Alliance labels and tell people why. Happy Easter.
Serving up Mexican flavours
As part of their Certificate II in Hospitality the Year 12 students had a successful first service of delicious food at the Circle of Friends Cafe this week.
Students have decided to theme each cafe service. This week's theme was Mexican. Dishes prepared and sold included naked chicken burritos, Jamie Oliver’s chilli con carne nachos and homemade orange lemonade.
All meals were served using take away containers made from sugar cane in an effort to be more environmentally friendly.
Koolyangarra House Car Wash for Project Compassion
On Thursday, 22 March, Koolyangarra House held a staff car wash to raise money for Project Compassion. Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal, Project Compassion brings thousands of Australians together in solidarity with the world’s poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity. Koolyangarra House raised $240 for Project Compassion during their annual car wash. All students are commended for fully embracing and engaging in this activity to raise much needed funds for a great cause. We would like to thank all staff who entrusted us with their cars and who donated money, as without your help, this event would not be a success.
