What is Faith?

Our Loreto and Jesuit heritage and the inspiration of Pope John XXIII are integral to our College. However, the death and resurrection of Jesus celebrated at Easter is what defines our Catholicity and is the essence of any Catholic school. First and foremost, we are a Catholic school inspired by the Gospel message of Jesus.

Holy week is the most important week in the Church. This week we have had a variety of celebrations as we engaged our students and staff in the Easter message. It is a time for faith and belief in the Risen Lord.

Some years ago, I heard a Priest relate a beautiful story at Mass. It was the story of a 13 year old boy attending a Catholic school. He loved his football (no cricket stories this week). His father attended every game his son had ever played. That, in itself, is not unusual but this particular father had a unique story as he had a serious illness which had resulted in the loss of his sight.

Unfortunately, the illness progressed and the father passed away.

The football coach was a great mentor for the young man and he gave the boy an opportunity to withdraw from the game following his father’s passing.

No, I would like to play’ was the young man’s response.

He then proceeded to play the best game of his young life. After the game he was congratulated by his team mates and family.

I had to play well today’, the young man explained.

It is the first game Dad has ever seen me play.

Now that is faith!

Best wishes to all our community for Easter. I strongly encourage our families to attend Parish services to be a part of the Easter message.
