Happy Holidays

Another term has come and gone and the holidays are with us again. We've had a busy but successful first half of the year and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and restful school holiday period. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday July 17th.

I wish Kayla Hart, Year 6 teacher, all the best for her wedding this Saturday. It will definitely be a day to remember and we look forward to hearing all about your special day and trip in Term 4.

Thank you to our staff members for preparing a delicious surprise breakfast for Kayla this morning and to Cristina (Prep mother) for donating a beautiful bunch of flowers and vase from Flowers for Jane.

Punctuality

Researchers have found that students who are late to school often miss out on important opening announcements and academic activities. It can disrupt the flow of a lesson or discussion, distract other students, impede learning, and generally erode class morale.

Students arriving to school with time to spare have the luxury of settling in, preparing their class materials and focusing their minds on the learning to come.

Children who arrive after 8.50am (class lines have left the basketball court), must be signed in at the office on the iPad and take a late pass to the teacher. Anyone arriving to class without a late pass after this time, will be sent back to the office to sign in. After 8.50am, parents should not be entering the classroom unless helping on that morning.

Masses

We will be celebrating our End of Term Mass tomorrow, Friday June 30 starting at 9.30am at Ss. Peter and Paul Church. At our End of Term Mass, we will celebrate the love that Jesus has for us and the love and compassion we are called to show to others, especially those who are most in need. Our Social Justice Leaders will be reading at the Mass and the whole school will be attending. The School Choir, led by Anita, will be singing during our Mass. We would like to extend an invitation to our wider Galilee community to join us at Mass and in celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart.

On Tuesday 18 July at 9:30am, we will be celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel with a whole school Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middle Park.  This Mass will occur in the first week back of Term 3. Please remember to sign CareMonkey permission before the the first day back in Term 1 to allow your child to travel by bus to and from the OLMC in Middle Park.

Violin Teacher

Unfortunately, Lynette Rayner our Violin Teacher will be leaving us at the end of the term. Lynette has worked with many of our students and has assisted in enhancing the Music Programme at Galilee. We thank Lynette for her contribution to our community and we wish her every blessing as she takes on a new challenge next term.

Clementine Isaacson has been appointed as our new Violin Teacher. Clementine will continue working with the current violin students on a Thursday and the fee structure will remain the same.

Clementine has spent the past 5 years studying music at a tertiary level at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and Griffith Conservatorium of Music. She has extensive experience teaching primary school students violin and cello in a range of settings, including Erasum Primary School in Hawthorn. We are excited to have such an experienced musician and highly recommended music teacher join our team.

Clementine has the capacity to take on more students in violin or cello from Term 3. Students in Year 1-6 who are interested in learning to play the violin or cello are encouraged to contact the school office in Term 3 so that lessons can be arranged.

Specialist classes changed Week 1 Term 3

Due to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast Day Mass on Tuesday 18th July, Specialist classes have changed for Year 5 students only. The Sport Lesson for Year 5 students has changed to Monday in Week 1. Year 5 students will need to wear their sports uniform on Monday 17th July (the first day back in Term 3). Year 5 students will need to wear their winter uniform on Tuesday 18th July. All other classes will follow the normal Specialist Timetable in Week 1.

Woolworths Earn and Learn

Galilee will take part in the 2017 Earn and Learn program through Woolworths. The program provides much needed resources for schools and early learning centres across Australia. The program has been set up by Woolworths as a way of delivering back to the community. Over the years Woolworths has provided millions of educational resources to Australian schools and early learning centres.

All you need to do is collect the stickers after shopping at any Woolworths. Once you have completed the sticker page, return to our collection box in the office.

The Earn and Learn Program will run from Wednesday 26th July until Tuesday 19th September 2017. Remember, anyone can collect the stickers in our school community - staff, parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends! Let’s reach out to our school community and earn as many points as we can to earn resources from Modern Teaching Aids.
