SSV State Finalist Softball Team

On Tuesday 23rd May, the Intermediate Girls Softball team competed in the SSV State Finals, after their win at Regionals. For the majority of the Year 10 girls this was such a big deal as this was their first time getting into State after four years of competitive softball. Throughout the day there were 3 teams that we competed against: Brentwood, Chairo Christian and Broadford.

The first team we played, Brentwood, was by far the most competitive team we have ever faced, however, although we lost 10-1, it gives us a chance to get ready for next year’s round and hopefully achieve a better score. The second team we played was Broadford. They were very enthusiastic about playing, and overall out of all of the teams had the best sportsmanship. Lastly we played Chairo Christian College. They were quite challenging, however our team still managed to achieve a great end result.

Overall the day was such an incredible experience and we can’t wait to compete in next year’s softball. Zoe Markopolous, despite not being able to make it because of camp, has still supported us and attended trainings.

Lastly this opportunity wouldn’t have been possible without Miss McLean. She continuously gives up her time to not only train us but other softball teams. Thank you so much Miss McLean for the past few years. Next year is our year :)

Term 2 Interschool Sport

This term has been jam packed full of sports. Glen Eira Athletics was a beautiful sunny autumnal day with huge house spirts and lots of fun.  Senior Lawn Bowls got to the state championship but lost a close game in the semi-finals.  Softball has had continuing success and you can read more about that in another article.  Beachside Cross Country saw Jared Freedman win his event and another dozen students qualified to go on to the Southern Metropolitan Region to be run before the end of this term.

The interschool sports of Aussie Rules Football (footy), International Rules Football (soccer), netball, badminton and handball were all competed in this term.  Year 8 girls’ handball won the beachside competition. Year 8 badminton, boys and girls, both qualified to the next level. Year 7 boys’ badminton is waiting on a count back to determine who progresses and year 7 boys' soccer blitzed their opposition and went through undefeated.

Good luck to all the students still competing in various events and thank-you to all the students (and teachers) for making sport this term so enjoyable.
