Music News- Week 13

Music Eisteddfod

We are delighted to announce that applications to enter into the John XXIII College 2020 Music Eisteddfod are now open! Students who learn an instrument or take singing lessons through the College will have their applications managed by their tutors, while students who learn externally can find the application form, here.

Given that the Performing Arts worldwide have been hugely impacted by social restrictions, we are hoping that this year’s Eisteddfod features a record-number of performers, to share their music with the College community. To help facilitate the Eisteddfod, the following changes have been made:

  • All entry fees have been waived.
  • All Secondary categories will be held on Monday 15 June.
  • All Primary categories will be held on Tuesday 16 June.
  • The number of categories will be increased, to allow for shorter and less populated sections.
  • All performances will be recorded for parents and families to enjoy.

As always, piano accompaniment will be made available for all voice and instrumental students, with rehearsals to be booked through the Music Office.

Applications to perform in the Music Eisteddfod close at 4:00pm on Friday 29 May. Please contact the Music Department with any queries.

Music Stands

The Music Department has a number of music stands that, while not compatible with our storage systems, are perfect for instrumental or vocal practice in homes! Anyone interested in acquiring a music stand on a first-come, first-served basis may contact the Music Department – we are asking families to make a voluntary donation to Jesuit Mission or Mary Ward International upon receipt.

Autumn Soiree

With the current health advisories limiting public performances, the Autumn Soiree will explore a different format in coming weeks. Members and families of Concert Band, Wind Band, Chamber Orchestra, Senior Guitar Ensemble, Swing Band, Treble Choir and Chamber Choir will receive information in the near future regarding the shape of the Soiree, as we proceed with the anticipation of sharing the wonderful music of John XXIII College students with our community as a whole.

Further details will follow.

Chamber Orchestra rehearsal track

We are excited be able to re-start face-to-face rehearsals for our ensembles. Here is an example of a home rehearsal track that our amazing John XXIII music tutors and staff designed for students in Chamber Orchestra to play along with, while we were unable to rehearse in person.
