Pathways and Transition

Course and subject selection can be a daunting task for many students. There are many things to consider, such as course prerequisites, individual skills, interests and individual future career preferences. Some students might be considering changing subjects, courses or post school options. It is important to investigate what is being offered, both at school and beyond.

Over the past week some universities have sent in their 2021 Course Guides. These are worth reading and available for our senior students (Year 11 and 12) to keep.  I have placed them in the library and Year 12 Common Room. Students are also encouraged to visit the Pathways and Transition Office for further information.

Applying for Courses and Scholarships

Tips from a John XXIII Alumni

Face to face, firsthand information is obviously the best way to disseminate information and advice. There is now an increasing reliance on social media and email; which proved to be fruitful in contacting past student, Connor Jenkins.  Connor was Head Boy in 2016, a recipient of the UWA Fogarty Scholarship and more than happy for me to share his thoughts.

His ‘tips’ include:

1. Apply for everything!

2. Get the help of those around you

3. Talk to those who have walked the path before you

4. Always be prepared

The full transcript of Connor’s email can be found in this document.
