Communicating with Home

The College is committed to working in partnership with parents and carers to educate their sons in an inclusive, holistic and meaningful way. The hopes of the College, mirror those of parents who want boys to be happy, healthy, engaged and inspired learners who will through their experiences at school lay the foundations to be men of character, optimism and service who will live great and joy-filled lives beyond the gates of the College. In doing so they will make a rich contribution to their families and the wellbeing of the communities in which they live.

To facilitate the home-school partnership we operate a range of communication platforms that will allow parents and carers to be active partners in their son's education. The following is a list of these platforms - if you are experiencing any difficulties accessing these or have suggestions as to how they might be more effectively utilised please contact hsenior@stvirgils.tas.edu.au or the College's Director of Development, Mr Mark Waddington - mwaddington@stvirgils.tas.edu.au

SIMON - the College's Learning Management system. SIMON features a Parent Access Module (PAM) which allows parents and careers to keep up to date with all their son's assessments tasks and results. This allows for 'real time' feedback to parents to inform critical home learning discussions and planning. If you have misplaced your login details or are experiencing difficulties accessing PAM please contact the College.

EdSmart - email based communication system for delivery of school information and permissions/information for school events and activities. All parents and carers who have provided the College with an email address should have an active EdSmart account.

College Website - our website is the home of all College information for prospective and current parents. It is regularly updated and provides links to other information and staff.

College App - our App is integrated wit the website and provides easy access from your phone to a world of information. The App is a free download from the App Store or Google Play.

College Newsletter - The Star. The star is named in recognition of the Christian Brothers star which takes pride of place in the heart of our College crest. The Star is our weekly newsletter which provides a broad range of information about different aspects of College life. We have just launched a new format which is easy to read and navigate and presents photos and video clearly and easily.

Social Media - the College has a number of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. With Facebook we have specific year level and activity pages in addition to the College page and SVC Sport. These include:

  • SVC Parents and Friends groups - senior and junior
  • SVC Music
  • SVC year level parent groups - Kinder-6, Year 7, 8, 9 and 10.
  • SVC Rowing and Sailing

Other useful Apps include - QKr which allows orders from the canteen online as well as other payments to the College - for example Easter raffle tickets!

We are always seeking feedback so please do not hesitate to contact Mr Waddington or I if you have suggestions or commendations.
