Welcome to Term Two

Inquiry

During Term Two, our Year Five & Six students will be focus on Media Technologies with the theme 'Creativity'. They are working collaboratively in small groups to brainstorm, plan, produce and present a short film. The theme of the films is 'A twisted Wizard of Oz'.

The Essential Questions that we will be focusing on are:

What are some different media arts genres?

How are digital stories (including film) and different media arts elements developed?

What are some of the processes involved?

How could you plan, produce and present your own digital story?

What responsibilities do you have to produce this story appropriately and ethically?

How can images, sound, effects and other elements be used to enhance digital media?

How can we develop criteria to review media arts stories?

Here are a few snaps of our groups. Some students have been absent during the week, we will continue to add photos in our future newsletters.

During the final weeks of the term we will be holding a film festival and we can't wait to see what our students have produced.

English

We have started Term Two with a writing focus of Persuasive text and the language features involved in this text type. Students are developing detailed skills and techniques to persuade an audience to share their opinion. Classes will be moving towards focused writing lesson where students will grow strength in sentence structure, paragraph development, word choice and using detailed expression.

Mentor text are being during our Reading sessions prompting the students to concentrate on examining them using the Thinking tracks of finding the main idea, summarising the text, inferring meaning and analysing the authors meaning. With a focus on Beyond the text and About the text students will use learnt skills to demonstrate their understandings.

Maths

Throughout Term Two, our students will be having the opportunity to explore and learn new skills in many areas of Mathematics. We have started the term with working with Fractions. Lessons have covered identifying fractions on number lines, improper and mixed fractions, adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions with same and different denominators, worded fraction problems and finally assessment. These concepts have been covered over 2 weeks allowing for deeper understanding.

Over the next few weeks we are covering area and perimeter, data collection and representation using graphs. Over the coming newsletters you will see evidence of our students exploring Mathematics concepts.

Chess Tournament - Champions

During Term One our Year Six students participated in a Chess championship. Our two finalists were Renair and Alice. Congratulations to Renair who won the Grand final and received a travel-sized chess set.
