Digital Safety and STEM

@ St Louis

This week we were lucky enough to be able to host a webinar with Marty and Carley from Inform and Empower, exploring 'Raising Kids in a Digital World'.

Thank you to all who attended and got involved in the Q&A. It was interesting to hear the crucial information about areas such as social media and gaming which Marty shared, as well as the powerful strategies and ideas from Carley to support emotional and psychological wellbeing in the digital age.

Marty referred us to the idea of Generation Alpha (our children), and what the balance between online and offline life looks like for them compared with previous generations (see pic below).

We were also given some great resources that parents can access to help support the conversations that may occur about such areas as gaming.

If you registered for the webinar but were unable to attend, you should have received an email on Thursday from Marty with a link to watch the event at your leisure. This will be live for 14 days after the original event.

If you weren't able to register but would like to watch back, feel free to request it by emailing me at twood@stlouisaspendale.com and I will provide you with a direct link to the video. Please note that the content in this video is for adults only.

You can also sign up to Inform and Empower's 15 Step Digital Mentor Challenge which provides you with emailed challenges over the course of about 2 weeks that you can complete at home. To access this click here SIGN UP FOR OUR 15 STEP MENTOR CHALLENGE.

As a school community, we look forward to welcoming Marty and Carley to St Louis on the 3rd and 4th of August when they will work with both our children and our teachers.

Just a quick shoutout to all of the year 5 and 6s who came on for STEM learning over the past week. We tried some new things together and all of you demonstrated great perseverance and problem-solving skills in the digital world.

Some of the designs we made using the 3D modelling software Tinkercad, can be seen below. We had anything from solar panel roofs by Steve, to a maze from Grace, an infinite staircase from Kaia, and a new door sign for me from Sienna. Now we just can't wait to see where we can go next with this amazing tool!

Well done STEM legends.
