5/6 SPORT

Next week our Year 5/6 students will start their inter-school sport practice games against schools in our district. Students are participating based on choice in either T Ball, netball, AFL or soccer. The final event will be the round robin tournament nearer the end of the term. Go Rippers!!

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO IN P.E.?

Foundation – Students are developing the fundamental movement skill of throwing; more specifically using an overarm throw when we need to throw far and an underarm throw when we are throwing close. So far, we have made paper aeroplanes to throw overarm and made our own targets to aim at.

Year 1/2 - Students are developing their ability to catch on the move. More specifically we are using different types of balls and concentrating on passing the ball and moving into the available space. We have so far been playing 'end zone' and 'goal ball' and working on the concept of moving the ball towards the goal to score.

Year 3/4 - Students are developing their strategies in invasion games. We are focusing on calling for the ball, giving the ball and going into space and one-on-one defence. So far, we have experimented with the same game, but changed the balls that are involved in invasion games: AFL, basketball, netball and soccer. Based on student's preferences we will next be looking at using frisbees, hockey sticks, touch rugby balls and handballs.

Year 5/6 – Students are developing their strategies in invasion games. We are focusing on using the wing as an option to create space, supporting the ball holder and one-on-one defence. We are using multiple invasion games equipment to develop our skill level and confidence to transfer our skills.
