Who should come:

The Community Conversation is open to all families with students at the school and will be of particular interest if your child is currently in Year 7, 8 or 9.

Context:

As highlighted in previous newsletters, evolution is occurring in the world and educators around the globe are responding to this evolution. There is an increasing need to prepare our students for complex and non-routine skilled work and as community contributors.

We want NHS students to be skilled collaborators and problem solvers, who think creatively and critically, are ethical and who have sophisticated communication skills.  We need our students to learn more deeply, to be self-aware in their learning, and to apply their skills in the real world. NHS is responding to the need for change by considering the ways we design programs, the learning experience of students and the manner in which we prepare young people to meet the future.

Purpose:

Be part of a community conversation to consider the ways we can best prepare our young people for learning success now and in the future.

We will present a snap shot of the current thinking and research about school learning programs and curriculum design with a focus on school/community context. We will discuss and gather your views about ways we can best prepare students to become successful lifelong learners. An overview of the Learning Program for Stage 1 of the Northcote Model for years 9 and 10 in 2018 will be provided.

What will we do with the information?

Northcote High will use this information alongside research and school data to inform student learning program planning, teacher professional learning around curiosity and powerful learning and identification of key strategies/goals to assess our progress.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
