Year 3 Report

Term 4

Welcome back everyone to Term 4!

This Term the Grade 3 students are participating in the Mindful Aus Incursion as part of the SEL program. Also coming up very soon is the Writers Festival which will take place on the 27th of October.  We look forward to seeing you then. 

 

Literacy

 

This Term the students will understand the purpose of a memoir and explore the various elements.  The students will further explore and identify authors craft in mentor texts as well as applying this in their writing of a memoir. They will continue to revise and edit their writing in order to improve and achieve their goals. Later in the term, the Grade Three's will work on poetry specifically focusing on haiku and cinquain. Towards the end of Term the students will revisit narrative writing.  In reading the students will continue to work on comprehension strategies and work in small groups to develop a deeper understanding of the text.  

 

Maths

 

We are starting this term looking at fractions. Students will be investigating fractions of a whole, fractions of a collection and fractions on a number line. They will also spend some time learning about equivalent fractions. Students will then  learn about Mass and Capacity and the difference between the two, Symmetry and how to tell if something is symmetrical, Angles and telling time on an analogue clock..

 

Inquiry

 

This Term the Inquiry question is, 'What Makes Australia Unique'.  The students will learn and locate Australian states, territories, capital cities and landmarks on a map. They will

identify attributes of Australia’s major natural features (e.g. rivers, deserts, rain forests, the Great Dividing Range, the Great Barrier Reef).  The students will learn the importance of environments to animals and people, and how they can be protected. They will develop their understanding of location and the skill in reading, drawing and interpreting maps of different kinds. The students will understand the map of the world and the significance of places for different cultures.
