Remembering the Big Picture

Over the holidays, I got to spend quality time with my family. We spent the first week camping and then a few days over the long weekend on the Central Coast. During the long weekend, as the boys would appreciate, I came back home for the night to attend the Rugby League Grand Final with my son. Even though we had a nice hotel up the coast, after 36 years without Parramatta winning a grand final, I had to take the opportunity to attend.

Now we all know the outcome of the game, and I am afraid it may be another few years before Parramatta make it to another grand final. However, when I reflect on the day, I reflect not on the Eels losing; I give thanks that I got to spend a great day/evening with my son. A day where we got to spend quality time together. A day where we got to go to one of the biggest sporting events in Australia. A day where we got to watch live entertainment followed by a game of rugby league. I am sure it would have been that little bit better had our team won. However, it taught us both that the day wasn’t about winning, it was about spending time together and being grateful for all the times we get to spend together. While games of rugby league are important, they will never be as important as spending time with our families.
