Cocurricular Report

Mr Joe Priest
Director of Sport and Co-curricular

The last two weeks of term was extremely busy as the winter season finished up. We held the Winter Sports Day and celebrated the end of the journey for our Year 12 students in numerous sport functions.

A reminder to all families that we are utilising the Hub this term to communicate important cocurricular information. Please ensure that you can access the appropriate pages.

Pedal Prix

The Pedal Prix team travelled to Murray Bridge for the first time since 2019 to contest the 24 hour Australian Human Powered Vehicle Championships. After travelling for 15 hours the Pedal Prix team arrived at Murray Bridge and set up camp. The team worked together to ensure the HPV was ready for scrutineering. After this the team rested and prepared for the night-time practice session. Well done to Luca Telfer who set a very competitive time placing us in 42nd spot out of over 160 teams for the rolling start the next day.

Our team competed admirably in the race, gaining the best overall finish from one of our teams, finishing in 86th position. This was a rewarding experience for all students involved in the team. The team of nine riders covered 700 kilometres over 24 hours.

Thanks must go to Dave Marchese, Jacob Jones and our parent helpers on the trip for their efforts with the Pedal Prix Team.

Winter Sports Day

On Tuesday 20 September, we held our winter sports carnival. This was a great opportunity for our day houses to compete against each other in a round-robin format. Thankfully the weather was fantastic with what was possibly the best day of the term.

Over the course of the day the students participated in four sports with the aim being to take the overall win for their house. One house proved to be very competitive across the four sports. Congratulations to Dean House who came away as the overall house champions on the day. Well done to the following teams who gained maximum points for their house

  • Dean – Junior Touch
  • Williams – Senior Touch
  • Gordon – Junior Netball
  • McLachlan – Senior Netball
  • Gordon – Junior Hockey
  • Richards – Senior Hockey
  • Williams – Football

CIS Athletics

On Tuesday 20 September the athletics team travelled to Homebush to compete in the NSW CIS Athletics Championships. Qualifying to compete at this carnival is an impressive feat. The team of 16 students were excellent on the day with some improvements made on performances at the ISA athletics, held only a week earlier. Well done to Brooke Rayner – 5th in triple jump, Skye Napier 5th in the 1500m and Sam Knox 4th in triple jump. Congratulations must also go to:

Oliver Colgan – 2nd triple jump

Cooper Martin – 2nd 100m & 200m

Laura Chudleigh – 2nd in high jump, 2nd in long jump and 4th in triple jump

A special congratulations to Laura Chudleigh who also set a record at the ISA athletics carnival in the 13 years girls' long jump.

National Youth Touch Football Championships

Josie Clarke had the honour of Captaining the NSW CIS 18 y/o girls' touch football side at the National Youth Championships on the Sunshine Coast 28 September - 1 October. The carnival attracts teams representing their states as well as affiliate clubs from NSW and Queensland. The team made it to the quarter-finals, losing to a very strong NSW Combined High Schools side. NSWCIS then played NSWCCC in a very close contest in the playoffs, coming away with the win 5-4 and achieving 7th place overall. Josie was also very honoured to have current Australian Women's representatives Shellie and Dani Davis coach her side. The calibre of coaching received throughout the carnival, coupled with the responsibility of her role as Captain made this an invaluable experience for Josie.

Cadets

A reminder to all families to save the date for Cadet Camp at the end of this term. All Cadets are required to attend the camp scheduled for the last week of term, from 5 to 7 December.

Home training will recommence on Wednesday of Week 2 for all rank. Home training will recommence for Year 7 on Monday of Week 3 and Year 8 training will recommence on Wednesday of Week 3.

Rugby Report

We have been presented an amazing opportunity!

The World Champion Australian Women’s Sevens squad will be heading to Orange in Week 3 and will be training at Kinross Wolaroi School. The team will be using our weights room and pool and will also conduct a training session on Ex-Students field. The training session will take place on Tuesday 25 October during Periods 2 and 3. All girls who played Rugby Sevens earlier this term will be invited to attend and watch the session. In further exciting news, fifteen of our boys will join the session and train against the Australian Women’s Sevens team. Whilst we were hoping to get some of our girls involved, the head coach of their program has requested to use our most experienced male players.

The Women's Sevens will also be running some clinics around town which will be open for anyone to attend. Details of this visit are still being finalised and will be updated in the Hub and on TeamApp.

Last season we hosted the NSW Waratahs, and now this event ensures our rugby players, both male and female, are part of a rugby program which provides opportunities we can all be proud of.
