Welcome back
I was immensely proud of the impressive manner in which our Year 12’s concluded their time at Kinross Wolaroi at the end of last Term. Their grace, dignity and positive spirit set a wonderful example for every student in the school and clearly reflected their affection for the School, their peers and staff. They should be proud of the mature, spirited and respectful way they concluded their journey at the School.
This week Year 12 face the final hurdle of their School career and I wish them the very best over the exam period. The hard work and preparation has been done, which will see them well equipped for the challenge before them.
Round Square journey to Europe
Over the vacation six of our students and two staff travelled to Europe to participate in the annual Round Square Conference. The conference was held at the University of Oxford and our delegates experienced the spectacular accommodation of Queens College, a college whose rich history dates back to 1341. After the conference our students engaged in some Round Square activities in London and then travelled to Switzerland to Aiglon College, another Round Square School, to complete their experience. I very much look forward to hearing more of their exciting and rewarding adventure. I am most grateful for the support of Mrs Kate Anderson and Mrs Sue-Ann Gavin who accompanied our students during the trip.
Pedal Prix – South Australia
At the conclusion of last term our Pedal Prix team journeyed to Murray Bridge near Adelaide to compete in the 24-hour Australian Human Powered Vehicle Championships. This is the first time since 2019 that the team has competed. The Kinross Wolaroi team competed admirably in the race, gaining the best overall finish by our school team, achieving 86th position overall out of 160 teams. This was a rewarding experience for all students involved. The team of 9 riders covered 700km over the 24 hour period.
Thanks must go to Joe Priest, Dave Marchese and Jacob Jones for their efforts with the Pedal Prix team over the five days.
Kinross Wolaroi School Boat Club
A highly successful residential rowing camp was held over the recent break. Our rowers' hard work and dedication will once again lay a solid foundation for another very successful Rowing season for the school. Thank you to Adam Harrison, our rowing coaches, dining and boarding staff and our transport team for all you did to ensure the great success of the camp.
Year 11 Camp
Year 11 have commenced Term 4 at Lake Burrendong where they are spending a few days preparing themselves for their Year 12 journey, setting personal and group goals and generating a positive and inclusive group spirit. This experience will greatly assist them in successfully engaging with the exciting and rewarding challenges that they have before them over the next twelve months. I am most grateful to our staff and particularly Mrs McCalman and Rev Dr Rosalie Clarke who supported our Year 11 students at the retreat.
In the final week of Term 3 we held our Senior School Student Leadership Induction Service. The ceremony staged before the Senior School and our incoming leaders’ families saw our 2022/23 Student Leaders and Prefects commit themselves to the responsibilities of their offices and the school community pledge their support for them.
Over the past year we have been superbly led by our Head Prefects, Ellen Arundell and Mac Webster who demonstrated that true leadership is about service and commitment, and they were very well supported by a hard working and motivated Prefect team. Many of our senior students have set outstanding examples and have shown courage and commitment in their desire to make our school a finer place.
I offer my congratulations to our incoming leaders who have been recognised for their ability to lead, to serve, and to uphold the values of Kinross Wolaroi School.
We know leadership is not about position or wearing a badge. Leadership is about service. It is about contributing to the lives of others and striving to make our school a finer place. Our new leadership team have a wonderful opportunity to build upon those time-honoured and worthy traditions of this fine school, and to demonstrate their initiative and vision by starting new practices and establishing new traditions.
What a special opportunity our new leaders have to demonstrate service and exhibit courage, resilience, commitment, inclusiveness and respect.
I thank them for taking on this responsibility. Our staff and I very much look forward to working with them over the next 12 months as we strive to make our school a very special place for all within our community.
