Catholic Identity

Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

NEW NEWS! - October - Mission Month!

We support a number of Catholic fundraising organisations each year - Caritas Australia during Lent and Catholic Mission during October.

Catholic Mission is the Pope’s international mission agency that supports the gospel scripture: “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10).

Catholic Mission contributes funding and provides project support to church-run initiatives in Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America, as well as remote dioceses within Australia.

We will celebrate a Crazy Socks Day on Friday, 21st October to raise funds for Catholic Mission. Students are asked to wear their normal school uniform, with crazy socks!!!

A gold coin donation is asked to participate in this fundraiser. We aim to raise $400 on this day!

NEW NEWS! - October - Month of the Rosary.

Catholics traditionally observe October as the month of the Holy Rosary, with the Feast of the Holy Rosary being celebrated on October 7th.

The Rosary is a series of prayers including the Apostle’s Creed, the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be.

There are four mysteries of the Rosary, which are traditionally prayed on particular days of the week.

The Mysteries of the Rosary are meditations on the life and death of Jesus and Mary, from the Annunciation to the Ascension.

These include the Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries, the Glorious Mysteries and the Luminous Mysteries.

NEW NEWS! - A Call for Altar Servers!

Mons. Peter has issued an invitation to any Grade 4 - 6 students who have celebrated the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist to train to become altar servers in our parish! This would involve some training sessions and attendance at weekday and weekend masses to gain experience!

We would love to see more of our students learn how to serve on the altar as their participation assists us to fully celebrate our school masses, too!

Please email Mrs. Hicks at mhicks@smmooroopna.catholic.edu.au if your child is interested in this important role within our Parish.

NEW NEWS! - A Call for Choir Members!

Students from Grade 3 - 6 are invited to join our St. Mary’s School Choir to perform at this year’s Mooroopna Carols in the Park.

Kiwanis are organising the Mooroopna Carols in the Park, 2022, to be held on Saturday, 10th December at 6:30pm. The venue will be the John Gray Oval, Mooroopna.

Students must be willing to participate in choir practise each Friday, from 1.00pm - 1.30pm and during some lunchtimes later in the term.

Please have a conversation with your child/children and email Mrs. Hicks at mhicks@smmooroopna.catholic.edu.au if they are interested

in joining the choir for this event!

Thanking you,

Michelle Hicks
