Junior School

Golden Honour Assembly

Today we held our last assembly for the Term. Many boys received Golden Honour Awards for their hard work and engagement during this time. Congratulations to all our boys on their efforts.

Learning Journey

On Wednesday, 22 September the Junior School will be conducting Learning Journeys. A Learning Journey is an opportunity for your son to share a variety of his work from this Term. Your son will take responsibility in showing you some of the work and activities he has completed at school. He will explain the tasks he has accomplished, and you will be able to ask him questions about his work. Your son has planned for the afternoon and is looking forward to sharing his learning with you.

Lost Property

Just a reminder that the unnamed lost property items are now in the lost property at Student Services.

End of Term

With the recently declared public holiday on Thursday, 22 September students will finish the Term after Learning Journey on Wednesday, 21 September.

I would like to thank parents for all your support and contributions to the Junior School community this Term.  It has been a very successful and busy one, perhaps foreshadowing what is to come in Term 4.

Term 4 commences for the students on Tuesday, 11 October.  Please have the boys return in their summer uniform.  I would like to wish all our boys and their families a very happy and safe holiday.

Some sad news struck the world last Friday that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away at the age of 96. Over the week, we witnessed extraordinary events unfold with the proclamation ceremony of King Charles III and the coffin procession of the Queen. A National Day of Mourning was also announced by our Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, in memory of the Queen for Thursday, 22 September. Sadly, we will miss out on our opportunity to begin our summer sports training. However, no doubt the students will enjoy the early break as we all pay respect to the Queen for her service to the monarchy and the ¬ 2.4 billion people, within 52 countries of the Commonwealth.

This week, as part of the Swim and Survive Program all the Junior classes had a clothed swim to improve our water safety and survival skills, helping students to learn how to keep themselves and others safe in and around water. The year 6s were fully clothed and were required to swim 300 metres, followed by treading water for three minutes. There were a lot of swishy shoes, soggy bags and flooded lockers that afternoon!

On Tuesday, we had some of our Junior School boys from GATE participate in the Ethics Olympiad. This year is the first time Trinity has entered the online competition, in which students got to analyse and discuss ‘real life,’ current, ethical issues, and present their arguments. Over several hours the boys competed, by answering a series of ethical questions over a zoom meeting. The GATE boys versed schools from all over the globe: Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, etc. Well done to the Eth-letes - Cash, Thomas , Frederick, Joel, and Nicholas and their ‘coach’ Miss Ricki Boe for helping prepare the boys.

We also received some fabulous news that our very own Gabrielle Sceresini, from Year 6, won the 2022 Catholic Performing Arts Best Solo Performance. That’s an amazing effort! Well done, Gabe! A fantastic acknowledgement of your skills, and the reason why you are our Music Captain!

The additional zzzzzz’s on Wednesday morning were appreciated by the year 5s and 6s with the break from PSA’s training. However, by Thursday, the boy’s energy levels powered up to have fun outside for our class sports.

Whilst the Year 4 Green class presented an inspirational mass, this morning, the Year 6s underwent profiling testing for high school in Gibney Hall. The literacy and numeracy testing took over 2 hours. In the afternoon, we finished off with our final assembly for the term with a Golden Honour Assembly. A huge congratulations to all the boys who won awards and have kept putting in effort till the very end. Today was also the last day for the Year 12s!  We will miss them and their speeches at assemblies but wish them the best of luck for the future. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend, with the countdown on now to the last day of the term!

Next week is a short week with our Learning Journey on Wednesday which is also the last day of term. As you all know the Learning Journey is a great opportunity for the boys to show you what we have been doing this term. Hopefully the weather is fine, and everyone enjoys the last week of term going into the holidays!
