Year 9 Humanities
Reducing food waste
Did you know that approximately 7.6 million tons of edible food is wasted every year in Australia? In Humanities this term, Year 9 students are working on solutions to this problem.
In week 2 this term Year 9 students attended an incursion run by OzHarvest, a not-for-profit organisation that “rescues” edible food from supermarkets, farms and retailers and provides it to people going hungry in the community.
In the coming weeks, Year 9 students will be developing strategies to reduce food waste in our local area, including conducting an audit of food waste in their own homes and a survey of businesses in Bonwick St.
We’re looking forward to hearing the creative solutions that our students come up with to the problem of food waste.
