...Including visit from the minister and farewell to year 12
Fourth term has come around very quickly, and it is hard to believe that it is almost one year since I accepted the position of principal at JFC. Not for a second have I regretted this decision, and it has been a challenging, exciting, and always interesting year. While we have experienced staffing challenges – as have most schools in Victoria – I can honestly say that this is one of the most committed and dedicated team of teachers and support staff I have worked with and I am immensely proud to be principal of this college.
Last week gave me 14.5 million more reasons to be proud and excited, when the minister announced the funding for our school. The response of the students as seen on the 9 news that night spoke for us all – we are ready for this and we can’t wait to see it happen. When we start the planning, I will ensure that each newsletter will contain an update on the progress. I can’t guarantee it will be fast, but I will promise to keep you informed all the way.
Other exciting news is that we are receiving a visit to our school from Ms Jenna Atta – secretary of Education – and Dr David Howes – Deputy Secretary, Schools. This will take place later this term. We are looking forward to talking with them about our plans for the school and hope to include some students in this conversation if time permits.
Year 12 students finish their secondary school journey next week and we will join them in a sensible and well managed celebration to mark the occasion. We will host a breakfast for the students on Monday morning and expect only exemplary behaviour from the students. I would like to wish all of our senior students all the best in the upcoming exams and stress to them the need to make the most of the study time up to the exams and be well prepared.
Our final newsletter this year will be brief and be solely devoted to announcing the dux of the school.
Enjoy the last term, which is always the best term as we start to wind up the year and celebrate at the end with graduation and activities.
Dr Lisa Vinnicombe
Executive Principal
