SAPSASA Boys Cricket

On Wednesday, the SAPSASA Boys Cricketers competed in Round 2 of the Large Schools knockout competition against Linden Park Primary School. This was a match that was held over and postponed from Term 1.

After some overnight rain and a drizzly morning, we were unsure whether the match would go ahead. An early call through from Linden Park Primary School confirmed that we would in fact get the match underway after all.

Magill Captain Chanuga won the toss and elected to bowl first. Our bowlers all did an exceptional job and bowled with great discipline, allowing minimal extras in the greasy conditions, taking regular wickets, and bowling with great line and length. We were able to restrict the Linden Park batting innings to a total of 5/73 from their 20 overs.

The Magill bowling performances included:

Seth - 1/14 from 4 overs                                             Diesel - 1/10 from 2 overs

Chanuga - 0/3 from 3 overs                                       Senehas - 0/6 from 3 overs

Emad - 2/10 from 3 overs                                           Armaan - 0/10 from 3 overs

Max - 0/12 from 2 overs

Magill then began their batting innings with Chanuga and Emad opening for us. We made a very positive start before we, unfortunately, lost Chanuga to some excellent fielding in a direct hit runout for 6. This brought Seth to the crease and he combined for a superb partnership with Emad. The running between the wickets, shot selection and loud calling from both boys was outstanding and paved the way for us to be in a very strong position in the match. Their unbeaten partnership of 60 helped to guide Magill towards the total before both were retired (Seth 23 not out and Emad 18 not out) to enable some other players to have a bat. Requiring 8 runs to win with 5 overs remaining, Max and Diesel set about chasing down the final runs. They also picked up where the previous partnership left off and completed the run chase with two overs to spare. Diesel then retired for 3 not out and brought Reuben to the crease for the final over of the match.

Magill played the match in the right spirit with great sportsmanship and teamwork, eventually taking the match with a commanding 9-wicket victory and with more than 2 overs to spare.

This sees us progress to the quarter-final of the Large Schools Year 5-6 competition where we will meet Burnside Primary School in early Term 4.

Well done to all of the boys on a great team effort and we look forward to next term!
