Being Well at Magill

Whole School Assembly

Hello Magillians.

It is hard to believe we have arrived at the end of Term 3. It feels like yesterday we were back at school ready to commence our 2022 school year. This morning we held a whole school assembly with our IM band, senior and junior choirs, and dance troupe putting on a wonderful performance. It was truly lovely to see so many parents in attendance: add some sunshine and the event was pretty much perfect! A big thank you to our hard-working Performing Arts and Instrumental Music teachers, and support staff who help behind the scenes (including last-minute adjustments to the banner which, until last night read R-7…thank you, Lucy). This assembly was hosted by a selection of year five students. Well done for your polished and confident work.

A big focus this year has been to increase student voice at our school. We have looked at the school’s Wellbeing Engagement Collection data and identified areas that our children have identified as needing improvement at their school. School belonging was one such area and in response to this, our Student Action Teams have been working very hard to create a climate that allows for more student voice. As a result, our Student Action team representatives have been running class meetings to discuss what is working at our school and what needs improvement.

They have focused particularly on playtime. Feedback from earlier in the year directed our action teams to offer more activities during breaks. This has included a lunchtime disco, Giant Chess, Snakes and Ladders, and games on the oval. Other feedback has been about the toilets: the condition of them and how they are being used.

We have just held another meeting which looked at how students are feeling at the end of term three and what we still need to improve.

Until next time, stay well.

What Is Going Well

Students are happy about the disco, and giant chess and feel lunch club activities are generally more entertaining than in the past. The toilet situation has improved slightly. Everyone seems to feel older and younger students are getting along well in the playground and are mostly using the new stair system well.

What Needs To Improve

Students indicated rubbish in the yard has decreased and the toilets are better but both areas could improve more. Other matters for Student Action Teams to consider in Term 4 include repairing the netball rings, making improvements to the garden by planting more flowers and continuing to offer lunch club activities.

Our Student Action Team Representatives look forward to actioning some of their classmates’ great ideas in Term 4. Until then, have a safe and wonderful holiday and see you all next term.
