Senior Choir 2022

The Senior Choir has worked hard all year, learning 13 songs with the help of our accompanist, Debbie Tsagatos, in readiness for the Festival of Music Concerts held in The Festival Theatre in Weeks 8 and 9 this term.

They attended their rehearsal at the Magic Millions in August (thank you to Milda, Simon and the parent supporters for your help) and had our concert night booked for Thursday 22 September. Unfortunately, our concert was cancelled due to the unexpected public holiday as a day of mourning for the death of the queen, and we were unable to reschedule our Magill School Choir for another night. As you can imagine, this was a great disappointment to us all.

However, we were able to provide the opportunity for 8 of our students to perform on Friday 23 September with the help of their parents, who transported and supervised them in order to attend. I know that the performance was a great success and that our students had a truly memorable experience.

Thank you to all of the families of our Senior Choir members this year for your support and encouragement. Working with these wonderful students has been a pleasure.

The Senior Choir performed at the end of term assembly on Friday 30 September, and we hope to provide another opportunity for them to perform again in Term 4.

Year 6 Market Day

As part of our learning in Business and Economics, the Year 6 classes formed small groups and created their own businesses. They were given a $50 loan to begin their business and needed to demonstrate an understanding of consumer choice in order to choose a product to create, market and sell in order to make a profit and pay back their loans. Similar to last year, due to COVID19, students were not allowed to create food or drink items. Instead they have made products and a range of sideshow games for students to enjoy. Products included plants, bracelets, bookmarks and stress balls. Sideshow games involved hitting targets, shooting goals and guessing games.

On Monday 26th September, after an extremely busy term learning about business, economics, consumer choice and the requirements of creating their own businesses, the Year 6 students put their products and advertising skills on show to their clientele of Reception to Year 5 students. What a fantastic day it was, showcasing their learning, with all products and games proving to be a hit raising an incredible $2,435.00. The profits will be donated to the Fundraising Committee to put towards proposed projects. The Year 6 teachers are proud of the efforts put in by their students and the enthusiasm shown throughout the learning sequence and on selling day!

Chinese with Mai Xie

Year 3 and 4 students learned about clothes in Chinese. They designed an outfit for a character and used Chinese sentences to describe what the character was wearing. Students were encouraged to share and present their work in class to build up their confidence in speaking Chinese.

The Mid-Autumn Festival also known as the Moon Festival, is a traditional festival celebrated in Chinese culture. Students learned the legend story about the Mid-Autumn Festival and discovered how the festival was celebrated in China and Chinese community in Australia. Students also learned how the moon cake was made and designed the moon cake artwork.
