‘Taking Shape’ Live Music Performance at PMPS

How lovely it is to be able to invite performers to our school again!

Yesterday, students in Years 3 – 6 experienced a live performance of the band Topology called ‘Taking Shape’. To be in the presence of live music, and instruments arguably less listened to by students of this age group - violin, viola, double bass and saxophone – was a real treat!

They heard these orchestral instruments make the music of blues, jazz, classical, lyrical and funk through inspired playing. They used the shape of words and the way we speak as the basis of music they then improvised on for at least two minutes. It was truly inspiring for those students among us who are learning an instrument themselves, to see such accomplished and skilled musicians sharing their craft so generously.

A few student comments:

The music was incredible, and I wish they’d played more! It was very cool that they made up a piece of music using our ideas. Abby, 5C

I really liked how they explained the song before they performed it, especially using their hands to show the pitch. Josh, 5B

I really enjoyed how they entertained us, especially using students from the audience to help create music – it was really creative! Their musical skill was the real showpiece.  Eden, 5D

I loved how they gave every student a chance to be a part of their music. Yilmaz, 5A

The way they played their instruments was mesmerising, and I couldn’t take my eyes off them … their talent was inspiring. Siobhan, 5D

Cheers, with many thanks,

Maria
