Star Gazing
Last week our Wangaratta High School community had the pleasure of listening to Krystal De Napoli talk about Indigenous perspective of the night sky and the impact of light pollution.
Krystal is a past student of Wangaratta High School and has now co-authored “Astronomy: Sky Country” as part of the First Knowledges series. This series provides a deeper understanding of how Indigenous cultures integrated weather patterns and seasons, this influences food availability into Dreaming and Songlines which align with patterns in the night sky. Krystal is also working with ASTRO 3D to present “STARS” (Scientists Taking Astronomy to Regional Schools) program and Wangaratta High School is the first school in Victoria to be donated an 8-inch Dobsonian telescope to keep. Thank you Krystal for a wonderful night.
We are looking forward to the rain clearing in the next couple of months to run Star gazing night with our new telescope and 3 additional telescopes loaned from WRCS CSU. If this is something that you are interested in, we recommend that people can download the free Apple app “SkyView lite” to start exploring our beautiful night sky.
