Leadership Camp 2022.

On the 7th of December the Hampton Park Secondary College student leaders made their way to The Phillip Island Adventure Resort to participate in a range of activities to help them with their leadership journey in 2023. The camp started off well with a lunch at San Remo before making our way to the resort and settling in. Activities started quickly with students participating in Canoeing, The Giant Swing, Archery and an Initiatives course. Leaders were able to demonstrate their effective communication skills along with their ability to work as a team and support each other to ensure they were successful in each activity. Some students were hesitant to participate, however with some encouragement and support they overcame their hesitations.

On day two some of the leaders woke up at 6:30am to take a morning walk to Smiths Beach. It was a very windy and cold morning, but we battled the wind to enjoy some sunshine and beautiful views before diving straight into their planning and work for 2023. These leadership sessions allowed students to meet their team mates properly and gave them time to brainstorm and plan their goals for the year to come. Students were dedicated, enthusiastic and excited during these planning sessions and have all made strides in their plans for 2023. During our downtime at camp, we had a great time with team trivia which included bonus rounds testing their singing and drawing skills as well as a movie and Karaoke night, these leaders love to sing! Overall, this leadership camp was a positive and rewarding experience for all and there is plenty to come in 2023 for these leaders and the wider HPSC community.

Rite Mentoring

Over the last two terms some our student partook in a unique mentoring program designed to promote positive futures and support them as they navigate the significant life transition of adolescence. In the program, young men have built real and meaningful connections with each other and with mentors their participated in topical discussions, storytelling and reflection while sharing a meal and activities together.

On Tuesday 15th November, the group had their final session and celebrations, where our Rite Mentors took time to acknowledge each student and the achievement they made over the last two terms.

Congratulations to all students on their huge effort and achievements!

16 days of Activism

16 Days of Activism is a widely recognised global campaign that signifies action towards ending violence against women and girls around the world. The 16 days campaign began on the international day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (Nov 25th) and ends on International Human Rights Day (10th Dec). The dates of the campaign were chosen to link violence against women and human rights.

This year, the HPSC Wellbeing and Respectful Relationships team organised activities for HPSC staff and students. The theme for HPSC was ‘Respect’. The purpose was to start a conversation with students about what respect means for them and what a respectful relationship is.

Instrumental Music Concert

After 2 years of being online, our talented and hard-working students finally got to put on a live Instrumental Music Concert on November 25th. They participated in rehearsals during periods 1 and 2, performed for some HPSC classes during periods 3 and 4, then had their final 6pm performance in the RPAC which was open to the community. Well done to our music students, they should be very proud of their efforts not only in the concert, but in their lessons all year!
