Italian Update
In Term 3, we had four students from our Italian sister school visit from Bologna, Italy. In addition to embracing the Australian high school experience by attending a full timetable of lessons at THS, they shared their own Italian culture with our students, especially with our Immersion classes 8G and 9G with whom they explored Melbourne on excursions. It was wonderful to see intercultural exchanges throughout the experience. A special thanks to all the families who welcomed the Italian students into their homes during their stay. The following reflection was written by one of our Year 8 students who is part of the Immersion class this year:
On Thursday 25th August, the Italian exchange students joined our class for an Italian-inspired cooking session. They showed us how to make pizzas in the cooking room. We got to choose different toppings to put on top of our pizzas, we cooked them in the oven and then we got to eat them. My pizza turned out so delicious! I really enjoyed eating the pizza for lunch and I wish we could make them every day in our Italian class!
The next day, we went on an excursion to Carlton where we explored the Italian restaurants and other places along Lygon Street. We went to explore the Italian museum and we did a treasure hunt. We got a piece of paper with clues on it and we followed the clues. I ended up winning the treasure hunt out of all my classmates. It was so much fun! The other students came a few minutes later because they got confused as the map showed a marked location at Papa Gino’s. This experience was amazing and made it a fun day with great memories!

Greek Update
Exploring Oakleigh’s Greek Precinct
As part of our cultural and language studies, the Year 9 Greek language class made its annual trek to the Greek precinct in Oakleigh.
Here students met with members of the Greek community, visited a cake shop and restaurant and completed an assignment about food.
Here is what the kids had to say about their day:
We started the day by meeting at Fairfield station at 8:40 and caught the train to Flinders station then took a train to Oakleigh and then walked from Oakleigh station to Nikos cake shop, our first stop.
Our teacher, Ms Anagnostopoulos, shouted at us all to α γλυκό (cake) and ζεστή σοκολάτα (hot chocolate). Once finished it was time to do some work and explore. We got into our groups and with pens and assignments in hand we started to explore the Eaton Mall and the precinct in general. My group visited the Greek Music store where we bought some bracelets. We then met at our meeting spot and went for lunch at Mythos Gyros Bar.
The staff were very friendly and the Σουβλάκια (souvlakia) were amazing and very filling.
Only two people felt they could eat a second one, which they did. We will definitely go back again.
After lunch we had some more time to explore. We then met up again and walked back to Oakleigh station for the trip home. The rain did not stop us from enjoying our day.

On the 26th of October our Year 9 Greek class went to Oakleigh to visit the Greek precinct to complete a Greek cultural studies task. We took the train from Fairfield to Flinders St Station and then from Flinders we took another train to Oakleigh.
When we got there we gathered at Nikos Cakes where we had hot chocolate with marshmallows and we got to pick a small cake. Most of us got a yoyo. We then moved on to a “challenge” of some sort and had to complete an assignment which obviously related to Greek things.
Then lunch time came and we met up and went to Mythos Gyros Bar to have souvlaki and chips. After lunch we visited the Greek music store and looked around. There was a nice
