Arts & Technology Exhibition 2022

The Hill Arts and Technology Show 2022

From 24th October (Opening Night) to 28th October (lunch time) 2022.   It has been an exciting time for us as we begin to come out of the 2 year hiatus in creating and presenting this event at the L Block rooms.

We are very pleased to be able to bring you The Hill Art and Tech Show 2022.  We are extremely proud to be able to showcase the works by our young people from Years 7 to 12, their creative pieces in both the Arts and Technology areas. These two areas are an integral part to our whole school learning curriculum, where our young people build their skills in the Creative, Critical and Design Thinking within a Design Process. The design process embeds both literacy and numeracy components that allows students to make better and stronger connections to their overall learning in their challenging and exciting school years.

We also have Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning senior students showcasing their work that they completed during the year (VCAL), who are further developing their 21st Century employability skills and learning through hands on practicum.

The pandemic had posed a variety of challenges for every single one of us but as they say, through the unfortunate circumstances, there is always a silver lining. The challenges of lockdowns, isolations and various uncertainties have encouraged us to be more creative in the way we navigate and strategise our obligations as educators for the growth of our young people.   Some highlights we are proud to announce which happened in the two challenging years includes, our students participation in the important ‘Youth Art for Reconciliation’ exhibition organised by the Monash Reconciliation Group, The Artist in Residence program provided by the Regional Arts Victoria and the Monash Tech School STEM program and most recently, winning national prize of Waikkiri dance competition.

The dance presentation is being showcased as part of the exhibition. Ms Abbey Novak presented the intention of this film as being a human rights theme linked to Banksy’s “The flower thrower” artwork. A great short dance film that is worth visiting and seeing. This beautiful piece of dance work was created wholly by students and their insight with just supportive advise and supervision from educators.

Our Guest speaker, who has also been a wonderful Artist in Residence Ms Susannah Langley, and in her second year now, discussed the importance of innovation and technology and art.  Her work focuses on linking all the visual art practices into Virtual spaces.

Ms Fern Brisbane presented the Principals award. The work that speaks to Ms Brisbane was created by our Year 11 Studio Arts student Alana Efthimiadis. It is now kept by the Principal and the school as part of its ongoing acquisition, a way in which we collect and archive students’ achievements over the years. Ms Brisbane also discussed the importance of creative practise in all areas of life and how it impacts students’ development and engagement in a holistic way.

Throughout the year, we have been working closely with our students in all our curriculums in the Art and Technology subject areas. We worked together to create a vibrant learning community in order to gain meaningful learning through the creative practices. We presented awards to students who have best demonstrated their Resilience, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility to Be the Best they can be. The award recipients are listed below.

Our Arts Club Leader, Lillian Kleinman displayed her enthusiasm with her speech about having a space for engaging in personal creative practice. Her passion to continue with independent creative development of ideas is evident when she linked the practice to our school values of Respect, Excellence and Creativity.

In addition, our Arts Captains Sophia Sais and Abigail Butcher presented the importance of an Arts pathway and the diversity this offers from Music, drama, dance, Visual Arts and Ceramics. Art is also significant to them as it provides the mental health and wellbeing supports for our students.

This exhibition would not have been possible without the kind help and special support of some.  We thank Louise Ford for her patience and skill in designing the gallery and setting up with a group of enthusiastic and helpful students, Nick Gramatakos and Amey Schufellen for their time tabling skill in making our setting up and later, pulling down the show almost seamlessly, Tracy Duff and Jane Callaghan for their incidental help in the preparation and setting up process, Frida Kent and her Team in admin, Fern for her generous support to the show and last but not least, all our Arts, Technology and VCAL Team members without whom this event may not be as wonderful as it is. To all of these kind souls, WE Thank Them.

We would like to extend our further invitation for you to visit the exhibition rooms in the next few days to enjoy the wonderful work of our students and their achievements from Years 7 to 12 in the Arts, Technology and VCAL areas. While you are in the Exhibition Rooms, please collect the People’s Choice award nomination card to cast your votes. Please nominate any work that speaks to you. The nominated works are marked with dots on them by colour and you can write the numbers in the boxes provided. The awards will be announced in our upcoming Presentation Night.  We hope you are able to enjoy The Hill Art and Tech Exhibition 2022
