"Be The Best That You Can Be" - Celebrating Student Wellbeing and

Growth in Learning

On Wednesday 19th October we farewelled the “Class of 2022.” This day is an important milestone as it marks not only a celebration for the class of 2022, but also the acknowledgement of thirteen years of schooling.  I was especially honoured to be a part of this celebration as over the past 6 years I have watched this cohort grow into the responsible young people that they are today. I am proud of their achievements over the years, and their various successes in a wide range of pursuits from the academic achievements, to the cultural pursuits of performance and music through to sport. Throughout the year, the class of 2022 have enthusiastically accepted the challenge to grasp the many leadership opportunities, both formal and informal to positively influence the cohort as a whole. For that, on behalf of the college, I thank you. I would also like to acknowledge the ongoing support provided by the senior sub school, VCE teachers, support staff and families alike during 2022.

After celebrating the Year 12’s final day, staff and students glammed up to attend the Year 11 formal which was held on the 19th October at Princes Receptions in Mulgrave. Staff and students alike had a wonderful evening socialising and dancing the night away! I would like to thank Holly Jepson, Year 11 Coordinator and her support team for organising a most enjoyable evening.

On Monday 24th October, the Arts and Technology Learning Areas hosted the opening night for the Art and Technology Exhibition. This evening was a huge success where students, parents and staff gathered to admire the range of pieces on display. Works on display included, photography, product design, ceramics, painting, and laser etch from Years 7 through to 12. The exhibition goes until October 28th and is located in L block. A virtual display is available for viewing via a QR Code on the display board at the front of the college on Raphael Drive. Thank you to Abbey Novak, Katia Takla, Khairi Razaai and their respective teams for organising this wonderful event!

On Wednesday 25th of October, Fern Brisbane, College Principal, attended the Inner East Principal Forum. The theme of the conference was on workforce and wellbeing- planning for success in 2023. No doubt Fern will return to school armed with many visionary ideas for us to implement to further support our staff and students. On Friday 28th October the Principal Team will be attending the Victorian Association of Secondary School Principal’s Leadership Seminar and AGM. During this seminar, we will be hearing from a range of key note speakers to further support our core work of leading state secondary education at Wheelers Hill Secondary College.

As we continue to work through the remainder of this year, we are actively preparing for 2023. During this time we are constructing the 2023 timetable, which will implement the mandates of the Victorian Government Schools Agreement alongside working through the student subject offerings for 2023. This complex work is being carried out by our highly skilled timetable team and I thank Jeremy Woods, Cameron Patience and Kerrie Lay for the time and effort they are dedicating to this very important task.
