Director of Sport

Mr Michael Moschogianis

With the weather gods finally coming to the party, it has been great to see our boys back on the grounds and courts doing what they love best.

SVC continues to provide opportunities across a wide range of sports and cocurricular activities.  Below is a summary of the Term 4 activities:

The Year 9 Coyle Clingefeffer Cup is being played next Tuesday on Gunn Oval at Pontville.  We very much look forward to taking on St Patrick's College.

The 1st XI is training hard in preparation for the following matches and tournaments:

Saunders – Di Venuto Cup vs Hutchins at WMO on December 8

Congratulations to SVC Sports Trainee and Old Virgilian Ryan Borsboom, along with fellow Old Virgilian's Darcy Allen, Will Sartori and James Wilson for being selected to represent Tasmania at the upcoming U19 National Cricket Championships in Adelaide in December.

Well played gents and good luck!

Touch Football

Touch Football continues to prove popular amongst our boys with three Year 7-8 and two Year 9-10 teams taking part in the weekly roster at Wentworth Park.

Volleyball

Following in the footsteps of the Badminton Army, Mr Aaron Tan has the Volleyball Development Squad of 30 boys up and about learning new skills.  The College has also entered the newly created SSATIS 9-10 roster for the first time with some very pleasing results.

Rugby 7s

Mr Sanderson has a small and dedicated group of boys participating in the inter school rugby on Friday nights at Rugby Park.

Sailing and Kayaking

The Marine Education Centre (MEC) is buzzing on Tuesday nights with a combination of sailors and kayak paddlers taking to the water.  New sailors are always welcome so why not give it a go.

Tennis

Mr Scanlon has charge of 7-8 team in the SSATIS roster, playing all our matches on our home courts at Austins.

International Futsal Tour

Ethan Leary (Year 9) recently toured Greece representing Australia in a futsal tour. Under 15s and 16s played a number of games with positive results and all of the games. Players and supporters have visited Olympia Home of the ancient Olympic Games the world known wonder of the Parthenon on the Acropolis Hill, went on a three-island cruise including Hydra Agean and Paros, and enjoyed Greek dancing and singing happening on the free island cruise. Highlights also watching Olympiakos training, shopping in Monasteraki and watching the local derbies in the football super league between Olympiakos and Lamia.
