Canteen

Hello from the Canteen!

Term 4 has started with a bang! Weeks 1 and 2 were busy preparing for the second half of sports day and the end-of-year concert. It was great to see all the kids (and parents!) back in their team colours to complete the sports day events. We were happy that the rain stayed away and the concert was able to go ahead as planned.

Canteen update

Like most small businesses, the canteen is struggling to keep afloat. Covid, constant supplier price rises and lower student numbers from losing the year 7's this year, have made the year tough. Over the Summer holidays, the canteen menu will be reviewed so we can best serve the current population of students. How can you help? Place orders!! Vote with your (children’s) mouths! Keep ordering your favourites so we know what you want to keep! Another way to help is volunteering. You do not need to make a regular commitment; even a once-off day to help with cooking or a special is hugely appreciated. See below for more on volunteering.

New ordering cut-off time

From next week (week 6) the cut-off time for QKR orders will be changing from 9am to 8.50am each morning. This is to allow the reports to come through in time.

Sometimes QKR gets overloaded and takes some time to process orders, so try not to leave ordering until the last minute. Any cash orders still need to be brought down in the class tray by 9.15am. If you have pre-ordered food on QKR and your child is going to be absent, please cancel the order by 9.30am or it will be charged for (applies to lunch food items only. Drinks, snacks and ice-creams can be held until the next day). To cancel, ring the front office and ask to be transferred to the canteen. Children arriving late who are wanting to do cash orders will have limited choices and will not be able to order after 10.30am.

Menu update

Did you notice the new item available Tuesdays and Wednesdays? 4 Chicken chippees in a wrap, you choose your sauces and salads. Order via QKR.

Also, keep an eye out for information about a Christmas special happening towards the end of term.

Speaking of Christmas, I am sure we all feel it is creeping up fast and coming just around the corner! This can be a tricky time for us to manage stock in the canteen. In the next few weeks, some items will not be restocked as they sell out so that we do not have lots of food sitting in freezers over the holiday break and can start the New Year with fresh stock. There may be some sneaky specials coming up to aid this. Watch on QKR! We are also still having some stock issues, (ice mony, jellies, and some chips) and expect the floods in Eastern Australia to affect this further. So, as always, ordering through QKR! Is the best way to know what is available.

Bread Tags

Did you know the Canteen is a Bread tag for Wheelchairs collection point? If you have a stash of bread tags at home, you can send them to us and we will drop them in at the end of the year. Please note this is for plastic tags only, not the newer cardboard ones. Thank you.

Our CANTEEN needs YOU!

We really need volunteers to keep the canteen running.

Volunteers enable us to cook our delicious and healthy meals onsite and keep our pricing LOW. Students also love to see their families being involved in the school community. We welcome mums, dads, grandparents, carers etc. No experience is necessary. The canteen supervisor will guide you through the morning with the preparation of lunches, bulk cooking or even cleaning; any help is greatly appreciated.

The canteen operates 4 days per week – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Our volunteer shifts are from 9.00am until Midday (once lunches have been distributed).  It does not need to be every week. Just times that suit your schedule.

A Working with Children Check is required but easily obtained. You also must complete a Volunteer Induction course online, and the school will assist you with this. If you are able to give the canteen some of your time, please see Karran or Michelle at the canteen or email parent.support483@schools.sa.edu.au.

Thanks,

Karran and Michelle
