Student Learning

Reception - Year 4 Tree Planting

A couple of weeks ago, Reception to Year 4 students participated in some gardening around our school. They pulled out some weeds, planted some new plants and worked with Gerard (one of our Groundskeepers) to learn how to plant the seedlings and look after them. Thanks to Bunnings (Modbury) who donated plants and Salisbury Council who provided a voucher for Indigenous plants from Provenance Plants.

We look forward to doing some more planting with our students and continuing to improve our school gardens.

From Our Italian Scholarship students

On Wednesday, a selected group of Year 6 students visited Valley View Secondary School's assembly to learn about Italian immigrants and their stories. We learned about Italian culture, Italian foods etc. We had several adults and teachers talk about their life in Italy and how their life changed when they moved to Australia. The presenters talked about the benefits of Italian immigrants moving to Australia, and how it has impacted our culture. Towards the end of the assembly, two year 12 students performed a rock song called '6L GTR'. The song was played because it reminded people about Australian culture through song.

We saw lots of old friends that previously attended Para Vista primary. We enjoyed seeing them and had fun at the assembly. It was a good experience and we liked seeing what high school is like.

Children's University

Congratulations to the 21 students (years 3-6) who graduated this week with at least 30 hours of activities in their Children's University passports.

Along with their families, they attended the Children's University Graduation at Adelaide University in the city last Monday. Students gowned up and wore mortarboard hats with 2022 tassels and were lucky enough to be presented their certificates in Bonython Hall by ex-Governor Hieu Van Le AC. We are very proud of the extra learning that these students have participated in throughout the year.

Concert

What a great night we had for our concert a couple of weeks ago! We were so lucky to have fine weather and an opportunity for our community to come together. It was really fabulous to see some of our instrumental music students perform for us and our students all kept us totally entertained throughout the night as they worked through the decades with their music and dances.

Thanks to Lee for organising and working with our fabulous MCs who were amazing with their creative ways of introducing each act. Thanks also to our volunteers who cooked our sausage sizzle and to all of our families for attending. We look forward to seeing you all at other opportunities such as assemblies and the instrumental performance over the next 4 weeks.
