Pasifika Program

With term 4 nearing its conclusion many of our wellbeing and engagement programs naturally reach their end (well at least for this year). Our Pasifika Program concluded for the year on a high note with a reflection around cultural connection and a celebration of the year.

2022 has been one to remember for many of our Pasifika students. Not only were students given the opportunity to engage with Melbourne Storm’s In League Program but they participated in the Rugby Gala Day, connected with culture through cultural games and food and were given a safe space to connect with school staff and peers.

It’s really been a year to remember!

Yr 9 Workshop

On  2nd November, the Year 9s participated in a Cannabis, Alcohol and Vaping workshop run by Thomas Reynolds from Independent Drug Education Australia.

Students learnt about the impacts and long-term implications along with what to do in cases of emergency. Thomas made a point of stating that he was independent from Police and other governing bodies so his entire aim was to provide facts and knowledge so students could make informed decisions in the future.

Students found the workshop insightful and engaging.

Young Men's Program

Our Young Men’s Program has been meeting weekly on a Monday since the start of term. Our facilitator Constable Guy Rogers from Victoria Police runs through several cardio activities with some of our year 9 and year 8 boys.

The purpose of the program is to build an understanding of respect, respectful interactions, enhance fitness and connect with teachers, peers and police.

Breakfast Club

Year 10 Pathway students along with wellbeing staff organised Breakfast Club on 28th October. Jansu Gaz the Youth Development Officer from City of Whittlesea came along to inform students about services and programs offered in the local area.

Epping Secondary College has a partnership with Foodbank Victoria, and they kindly donate some of the produce for Breakfast Club. Students are also offered fresh fruit such as apples, oranges, pears, SPC two fruits, milk and other snacks daily.

I would like to acknowledge the contributions from Grace Greaves (baked some fresh muffins), Chloe Stevala and Megan Henham who helped to serve food and connect with their fellow students and staff. Breakfast Club starts at 8am and is a great way to start the day. I was pleased to see many staff and students visiting throughout the morning.
