Remembrance Day

November 11

On Friday 11th November, our college commemorated Remembrance Day to pay our respect to the soldiers fallen in wars, past and present. We commemorate the courage they have shown and the sacrifices they have made, in keeping our communities safe.

In paying tribute, we had Esther Stark read a speech about the significance of this day in upholding the values of freedom and peace around the world. After the speech, we observed one minutes silence followed by Esther Stark, Bailey Vincent and our College Principal Bradley Moyle laying a wreath at the flagpoles in the school yard.

In an effort to draw attention to this day, we have been running activities in the library and in humanities classrooms to raise awareness of our student’s perceptions on the events that take place around the world and how they can impact all our lives, to some extent. We hope that by having student participate in such activities they will be able to sympathise and empathise with the current events taking place around the world.  Below is a personal story submitted by a student who wanted to honour their grandparents.

Year 10 students Anika Macdonald and Kaitlin Long along with Year 9 student Khy Strappazon, attended the Epping RSL to commemorate Remembrance Day. The ceremony included short speeches from retired service personnel and a poem ‘Flanders Fields’ read by Kaitlin in front of an audience of about 100 people.

Kaitlin did a fantastic job and was the only student to take the microphone on the day. Wreaths were then laid at a commemorative cenotaph by various community members, politicians and local school representatives.

At 11am 'The Last Post' bugle call was played. Our three ESC student representatives did a fantastic job.
