Whittlesea Food Collective

VCAL Community Electives program initiatives have provided our VCAL students the chance to partner with local organisations who seek to provide support to vulnerable members of our community.

This year, our Community Connections class have volunteered every Friday to support the work of the Whittlesea Food Collective who operate out of Melbourne Polytechnic’s Epping Campus. The Whittlesea Food Collective have a small garden and supermarket stocked with items donated by various businesses. They also provide meals for families struggling with finances or poor health who cannot cook their own fresh meals.

Epping Secondary College is one of the local schools who prepare healthy, fresh meals every Friday for Whittlesea Food Collective, so that those in need can collect a tasty meal whilst shopping at the Whittlesea Food Collective ‘Supermarket.’ This week, despite our Year 12 members finishing school, our trusty team of Year 11 VCAL students still made a wonderful effort to work hard stocking shelves and organising the warehouse.

Ms Scane and her small team also worked hard to provide us with meals to donate this week.

A big thank you to all the VCAL teachers and students who have supported this initiative and to Ms Krionas and Ms Scane, who have tirelessly supported this program.
