Wellbeing News

St Martin de Porres 50th celebration was a great reminder of how important establishing strong connections and building positive and respectful relationships is for our school community.

It was wonderful to see many past students and past staff reconnect with each other and share the many memories made on our school grounds. Thank you to all our current school community members who came together to celebrate this special event with us.

Our Respectful Relationships Education has continued to engage students through rich evidence based learning that aims to build students capacity to understand and establish strong foundations in their relationships with their peers and adults around them.

The focus in Respectful Relationships for the second part of Term Four is for students to build on their strategies to effectively solve problems and manage stress. Problem solving skills are an important part of the coping repertoire.

The activities designed in this topic assist students to develop their critical and creative thinking skills, and to apply them to scenarios exploring personal, social and ethical dilemmas. It may be a great time to talk to your child about ways you work through a problem including:

  • Naming the problem (no blaming, no emotion, just facts)
  • Brainstorm options (collect many ideas)
  • Appraising the positive / negative of each option
