INSPIRING CURIOUS MINDS
The 5/6s have been enjoying our poetry writing unit and wow, they have been creating some excellent poems. Some students shared their poetry at assembly last Friday and others have been performing them to the class. I am really proud of the way the students have adjusted their writing to fit the organisation poem, the deep topics they are writing about and the amazing language they are using to convey their message. Here is a brilliant poem from Hieu. Well done Hieu.
At assembly last week students that had been doing exceptional work were recognised for their effort!
On Wednesday 2nd November, the Prep classes went on an excursion to Collingwood Children’s Farm as part of our curiosity unit on ‘Living and Non-Living Things’.
We got to explore the farm, go on a farm tour, investigate Indigenous plants, pat lots of animals, and plant a sugar snap pea seed to take home. Some of our plants are starting to sprout already! We were joined at snack and lunch by the friendly (and tolerant) farm cat Mash and a very nosy peacock, who was searching for any leftover food!
We asked the Preps what their most memorable part of the excursion day was and this is what they had to say:
My most memorable part was the Guinea pigs because I’ve never been able to see Guinea pigs before and I know every time I try something new I remember it forever! - Georgina PA
I would say it would be the cat because it was really fun patting the fluffy cat - Simon and Billy PA
The goats because I pat Garlic and they did a poop!- Trevor PA
Seeing the goats because I like the name Ice Cream - Helena and Elizabeth PA
I liked the chicken because it was softer than the cat - Alexandar PA
The peacock because the feathers are so beautiful and he kept showing off! - Nina PA
Patting the Guinea pigs - Audrey PB
Watching the chickens digging in the ground - Augi PB
Seeing the peacocks beautiful feathers - Jody PB
Planting the sugar snap peas - Gilly PB
When we saw the pigs at the back of the fence - Millie PB
Going on the bus - Hugh PB
When the Guinea pig escaped its basket - Milla PB
Going on the bus and relaxing - Eleanor H. PC
Walking in the mud - Lillie PC
Seeing Tom the Guinea pig running out of his basket - Austin PC
Seeing the peacocks chase the chickens - Wilfred & Caspar PC
Seeing with the magnifying glass and that your head was giant! - Luciana PC
It was such a fun filled day and we can't stop talking about it! We are now able to use this real world learning back at school.
Thank you to all the parent volunteers who joined us on this day and made it such a wonderful experience.
In response to the reading of In Flanders Fields at 11am today, Year 3 / 4 students wrote Remembrance Day poems and created handprinted poppies to pay their respects.
As students in grades 3-6 are exploring the unit, ‘What’s it worth?’ we walked to South Melbourne Market to seek inspiration for their market stall. This excursion provided students a real world idea of how a market operates - the physical structure of an effective stall and the economics involved in a small scale business.
