New Arrivals!

Our Graphic Novel section is fast growing here in our library at Beaumaris Secondary College.

Graphic novels help our students simultaneously develop verbal and visual literacy. Students must interpret illustrations to understand characters and plot development.

In our library the graphic novel collection is used to aid those with learning differences and has inspired our more reluctant readers. However, graphic novels are also an excellent resource for advanced learners.

Recent studies focused on how the brain processes the combination of images and text show when students learn to read graphic novels with an analytical eye, depth and complexity are added to the reading process and they start to think deeply about the elements of storytelling.

Students can pair the novel that they are reading in class with the graphic novel version available in our library. Once the class novel is completed, the graphic novel version acts as an additional resource.

Pictured here are some new arrivals to our library.

Happy Reading!
