Principal's Report

“Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.”  - Sally Koch

The daily opportunities to influence those around us with kindness and care are boundless. We begin with unconditional positive regard for each other that is followed by not only high expectations but also our intentional actions to be our best selves. This is a choice that we show children through our actions as adults. We care, communicate, listen, ask thoughtful questions and work through the difficult things together then our children will learn to care, communicate, listen, ask thoughtful questions and work through difficult things together. The ripple effect for these small actions will last a lifetime. The servicemen and women that we honoured on Remembrance Day worked through the most difficult of things together in times of war. Our teachers facilitate the learning that encourages students to ask thoughtful questions and cultivate curiosity at school. Our positive and caring partnership with parents ensures that we work through the difficult things together.  The ripple effect into our children then is evident when we have students volunteer for the Central Bayside Community Health Services Footy Day. The students were outstanding ambassadors for, not only the college, but the Beaumaris community that values service to others. It is these acts of commitment, courage and connection that create local heroes.

Remembrance Day

Our student leaders represented the college at Beaumaris RSL Service last week as well as a Remembrance Day commemoration at the college. These commemorate those who fought in conflicts and war so that we may have our freedoms. It is important that young people participate in Remembrance Day events.

World Teachers' Day

We celebrated World Teachers’ Day on Friday 28 October.

Teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions. Unknown

We all have fond memories of outstanding educators who have added to our lives and contributed to the paths we have taken in our professions.  We have an outstanding team of educators at the college.

Thank You Afternoon Tea

We thanked and acknowledged our Student Wellbeing Action Group and Parents’ Association volunteers for their generosity of time and organisation on the community day.  A donation certificate for the amount of $1797.35 was presented to the Blue Ribbon Foundation at a ‘Thank you’ afternoon tea that was held for everyone who helped to organise the wonderful Bayside Community Safety & Wellbeing Festival.  The team of students and community members are already planning for next year’s event.

Central Bayside Community Health Services Footy Day

Our local heroes are the students who volunteered to run some footy drills and activities for the Adult Community Options Disability Day Program at the end of Term 3.  They were delighted to receive beautiful handmade thank you cards from the clients of the service who truly valued the time they spent with them on the day.

Rickett’s Point Marine Sanctuary

Our Marine Ambassadors Lua C and JJ M represented the college at the 20th Anniversary of the Marine Sanctuary on the weekend. They interacted with many of the community’s passionate Rickett’s Point Sanctuary advocates such as Bob Whiteway's daughter (Jane), Ray Lewis, Neil Blake (Baykeeper), Friends of Native wildlife, Ben (Fossils of Bayside) and Ellie from Parks Victoria.

BSC Ladies' Lunch

Our first Ladies' Lunch was held on Saturday 22 October at the MCC Pavilion and it was a great success. I was privileged to speak to the 80 ladies in attendance about their roles beyond motherhood as Australian women. Australian women have led the way for women across the world beginning with voting rights and representation. In literature, as tough and independent women who care for their community as well as their village.  Our mothers are models and a source of inspiration to their children.

Thank you to Shae Langford-Jones and her team for organising such a wonderful event.

Swedish Delegates Visit

We had a lovely visit from Wayne Stephens, the architect of our school, as well as 3 Assistant Principals from Sweden. Our school is recognised for our progressive approach to teaching in these spaces. These leading educators were keen to see how we used space to enhance the learning experience of our students. We know this will be the beginning of a longer-term connection with our colleagues in Sweden.  I look forward to more opportunities to share.

Year 7 2023 Transition

Some of our current Year 7 students have visited their primary schools over the last couple of weeks to provide information and support to our incoming Year 7 students.  Once again, wonderful ambassadors of our school community.

Good Luck Emerson!

Congratulations to Emerson L (Year 9), who has been selected to represent Australia in the World Gymnastics Championships in Bulgaria this November, after placing first in the two Australian championships this year.  Outstanding!

VCE Exams

Beaumaris Secondary College history in the making as many of our Year 11 students completed their Unit 3/4 exams. The very first was Bora who completed his Turkish exam with a smile on his face. We are very proud of the mature and dedicated approach our students have demonstrated during this time. Students now have a clearer understanding of what to expect as they enter Year 12 in 2023.

New Shade Sails

Shade sails have been erected on the Balcombe Road side of the school over the tiered seating as well as the viewing mound at the northern oval. These provide a great area for outdoor learning and breaks while protecting students from the sun.
