What's happening in our classroom

It’s been a very busy term for the Grade 4s. We have been revising the structure of an exposition text along with language features such as time connectives, modal words and causal conjunctions that can be used in persuasive writing. We have also explored persuasive techniques that can be used to strongly convince our readers of our opinions.

During reading sessions we will continue to learn and practise a range of reading skills to support students' learning. Students have been participating in targeted teaching groups for reading in preparation for NAPLAN which will take place in term one of next year.

In Maths, the Grade 4 students have been learning about fractions and have been using concrete materials and paper to make fractions. Students have been learning about chance and probability and have participated in chance experiments involving dice, coloured counters and spinners. Students have also participated in targeted teaching groups involving number.

In Future Focused Learning sessions, students are learning about Civics, Citizenship and Government. Students have explored the key values that underpin Australia’s democracy. Students helped to organise the voting campaign to select the school leaders for 2023.  This allowed them to be involved in an authentic democratic experience. Students are currently researching rules and laws and why they are important in our society.
